How is an Allergy Patch Test performed?
Application: Small amounts of various potential allergens (like metals, fragrances, or chemicals) are applied to your skin, usually on your back, using adhesive patches.
Monitoring: The patches are left in place for 48 hours. During this time, it's important to keep the area dry.
Evaluation: After 48 hours, the patches are removed, and your skin is examined for any reactions. Additional checks are typically done after 72-96 hours to assess delayed reactions. Note The process described may vary between dermatologists.
What to expect during Patch Testing
You may experience some mild irritation at the patch test site.
You'll need to avoid activities that might disturb the patches, such as vigorous exercise or swimming.
Preparing for Patch Testing
Medication: Inform your healthcare provider about any medications you are taking. Some may need to be stopped before the test.
Skincare Products: Avoid using creams, lotions, or ointments on your back for a few days before the test.
After the test
Your Dermatologist will review the results with you and discuss any necessary changes to your daily routine or product use.
Avoid using any products that you tested positive to.
